Jenelle Eli
BIO

Jenelle Eli is the Director of the International Communications Team with the American Red Cross and has held many positions at the Red Cross in Communications. Her job involves engaging Americans in the international work of the Red Cross Red Crescent. When the Red Cross responded to the Nepal Earthquakes in 2015, OpenStreetMap proved an essential tool for Jenelle’s team to successfully find those communities that were most impacted by the disaster.

OpenStreetMap is especially vital during the emergency phase of a disaster, allowing first responders to quickly get the right help to the people most in need. Jenelle met resilient, tough, and hopeful families on her trip to Nepal, and believes that OpenStreetMap empowers them to help themselves.

Jenelle has a BA and MA in Political Science from Ohio University and has won a 2013 Gold WOMMY Award and OMMA Award with the US Committee for Refugees and Immigrants.
