Jeff Warren holds a Master of Science from MIT and a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture from Yale, and is the Co-Founder and Research Director for Public Lab. When Jeff heard about what happened in the Gulf, he knew his experience in creating low cost sensors could help. As creator of www.GrassrootsMapping.org, Jeff designs mapping and citizen science tools. He flies balloon and kite sensors to respond to environmental pollution and degradation. Jeff is a Fellow at MIT’s Center for Civic Media, on the boards of the Open Source Hardware Association, the Alternative Education Program, Parts and Crafts in Somerville, MA, and of Personal Democracy Media's WeGov. As an advocate of open source software, hardware and data, he works with Public Lab to develop new tools and techniques for measuring pollution that are cheap and easy to use for anyone. Jeff believes that in investigating pollution ourselves, and with our families, we are better able to understand and respond to it.
